Are you ready for the MSF Summer Camps 2022??
The theme of the 2022 MSF Summer Camps is the Elements (fire, water, earth, air, and heart), with a broad range of meaningful, exciting activities for Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts (aged 6-14) relating to each Element. Activities will engage, challenge and intellectually stimulate young people, resulting in a memorable weekend of appreciating and utilising the natural elements, and spiritually reconnecting to Allah’s creation.
Developing an appreciation of creation from a young age stems into adulthood; while young people are growing up during a global environmental crisis, it is important that they have an inclination to take care of the planet. Circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic prevented the annual return of the MSF Summer Camps in 2020 and 2021, meaning that the Summer Camps of 2022 will be the first large camps in 3 years for over 2000 young people. For young people who have potentially been drastically impacted by the pandemic with regards to areas like their confidence and wellbeing, it is vital for them to rebuild and maintain social connections and networks, and the Summer Camps are an incredible opportunity to facilitate this.
Young people will spend the Camps with people their age from across the UK and beyond, strengthening their inner sense of community and belonging. Friendships, bonds, and memories will be created that last much longer than the Camps themselves, which is important for personal development at a time when young British Muslims notoriously struggle with their identities. MSF Summer Camps are not just beneficial for the participants, but also for the volunteers who run the camp, most prominently of the Explorer and Network ages (14-25). The same aspects of building connections and strengthening their sense of identity apply, and volunteering at the Camps also provides young people with a strongly sought sense of purpose and commitment. MSF Summer Camps are one example of the building blocks that create strong, dedicated leaders within the Muslim Scouting community, providing skills, memories, and confidence that takes them into positive, bright futures.
