The Muslim Scout Fellowship (MSF) has received national recognition at the British Muslim Awards.

The MSF is the official body for Muslim adult Scout volunteers, aiming to promote Scouting in the Muslim community.

The group were up against the likes of Dr Hany El-Banna, a leading figure in the UK Muslim community, at the prestigious awards ceremony (thediversityawards.info), and took home the Muslim in the Community gong.

Great achievements

The British Muslim Awards recognises a wide range of great achievements that cover various aspects of British society including business, charity, sport, arts and culture. The awards show, which took place in Manchester, aims to celebrate the significant role that Britain’s Muslims have in society.

Other award winners included double Olympic champion, Mo Farah (Best at Sport) and business mogul, James Caan (Entrepreneur of the Year).

Yousif Eltom, Chairman of The Muslim Scout Fellowship, commented: ‘The UK Muslim Scout Fellowship are delighted to be presented with the award for Muslims in the community as it shows recognition for the effort of the many leaders and volunteers who have supported Muslim Scouting for over a decade.

He continued, saying, ‘We thank The Scout Association and the County and District Commissioners who have welcomed [Muslim] Scouting, but most importantly the leaders and Members of the nearly 50 Muslim Scout Groups for their continued efforts.’

New clothing range launch for girls

29/03/2012

A new clothing range for girls in Scouting launches today.

The brand new iScout hoodie dress is the work of designer Sarah Elenany, whose fashion label, Elenany, provides stylish clothing that Muslim women can wear.

The design was developed in partnership with Muslim girls in Scouting, and as well as looking great, the dress is also practical enough to wear during activities.

The outfit is knee-length and features a graphic print inspired by Scouting activities that encapsulates our adventurous spirit.

Muslims in Scouting

There are a growing number of Muslims enjoying Scouting, with around 2000 Muslim Scouts now in the organisation, and 40 UK Scout Groups with predominantly Muslim membership. The new clothing range is one way that UK Scouting is adapting to suit our increasingly diverse membership, and helping young people to get the most out of our programme of fun and adventurous activities.

Aamena Ismail, a Scout from London, said

‘I think this dress hoodie is a fantastic idea. As a Muslim girl in Scouting I feel more comfortable in it, but it’s still practical and I can even wear it abseiling! It’s stylish enough to wear outside Scouts too, and I love how you can see different activities within the design. It’s something different and a brilliant idea.’

The start of a new range of clothing

The new hoodie is a limited edition design, with plans to launch further additions to the range later in the year.

Bear Grylls, UK Chief Scout, said:

‘With this new clothing range, Scouting is continuing to move with the times and adapt to the growing number of people from different communities who are choosing to be a part of the Movement. Scouting has something to offer everyone, no matter what your religion, ethnicity or belief, and I’m so proud that we offer an environment for people of all backgrounds to come together and enjoy themselves.’

Orders can be made from Scout Shops.
